Seal of Approval

I'm not going to lie, after a long, full day in the big city, we were all completely fried.   Because of torrential downpours and heavy traffic, we didn't arrive to our hotel until after midnight.   Thankfully, we kept today as an easy, relaxing day.  We didn't leave our hotel this morning until late morning.

One of the reasons we love road trips is the sense of adventure and the freedom to explore at our heart's whim.   As we rolled out of the Providence, Rhode Island area and into Massachusetts,  we took in the beautiful nautical scenery - masted boats, tug boats, sparkling waterways.   And then I saw it,  we saw it at the same time.   "Is that a nuclear reactor?"    My husband confirmed it.   There was even a low lying fog around it which made it appear even more ominous, but we quickly were distracted by a beautiful city right on the water.   Runcie and I both agreed to pull off the interstate explore the town.   Right on the water we found a really fun place to enjoy lunch.   As we sat on the water, we had a good laugh when we discovered the nuclear reactor sinisterly looming in the background...  (ha! ha! )

A fun car we saw parked by the marina...

After lunch, we rolled down the road to Chatham, Massachusetts.   We had a 4:00 appointment to load a boat for a seal tour.  One unexpected side benefit of the seal tour was getting to take in the cape from a unique vantage point.   Seeing the homes, the islands, the water, and the wildlife gave us a unique perspective.  But, I've got to be honest, those seals were so stinking cute!!!   And when I say stinking, I mean it in every aspect of the word.   Watching them swim, play, and then beach themselves onto the shore was quite entertaining.   But when we got close to that little city of seals, it was literally "breath - taking."   Still, my girls didn't seem to mind the stench, they were lobbying on ways to adopt a seal as a pet or buy a zoo.   (we're not getting a seal).

See the seals?

Seal social hour - lots of romping around here - .

Last Pirate Ship - See the fierce sea gull captain?

After we got off the boat, we found a great place to enjoy dinner just about a mile down the road, and conveniently enough there was a laundry mat next to it.   Yay!!   Now we will have more wardrobe options (it was getting down to slim pickings).   Dinner was enjoyed outside in a setting just as one might picture in Cape Cod.

That's about it for today; I think we were still recovering from NYC, so a low key day was just what the doctor ordered.   Tomorrow we will catch a couple more sites in Cape Cod and then head off to Boston.
